Introduction to Dalaman Airport: Location and History

Dalaman Airport, located in the southwestern province of Mugla, Turkey, was established in 1976 and officially opened in 1981 as an airport. In 1989, it was upgraded to an airport. The airport covers an area of 6.15 million square meters. The most recent addition to the airport is the new Dalaman International Terminal, which costs around $150,000,000 to construct and is the third-largest terminal building in Turkey. The terminal building was designed by the renowned architect Emre Arolat, who also designed the award-winning Sancaklar Mosque. The new terminal has 12 boarding gates, 8 of which have covered airbridges, and the apron has been re-designed to increase space for remote stands. The airport can now handle up to 35 flights at any time, with a floor space of 95,000 square meters, compared to less than 45,000 square meters before the refurbishment. The check-in and departures are located on the upper two levels, while arrivals are on the lower two. The old terminal building is still in use, operating as the domestic terminal.
